ABOUT US

VOLF ENTERTAINMENT is a company created by an investment company, LISBON VENTURES, to produce series, films and documentaries. This production company counts with the trajectory and experience of 25 years of director and producer Leonel Vieira.

Leonel Vieira founded Stopline Films in 2004, a production company dedicated to the production of films and series, adding over the years more than 30 titles and almost 200 advertising films. “O PÁTIO DAS CANTIGAS” (2015), directed and produced by Leonel Vieira, became the biggest box office success of Portuguese cinema. This film is part of a trilogy of comedies that was a great success in Portugal and were sold to Netflix, Prime Video, AXN, Canal Hollywood, TVCine and RTP1. To this day, it holds the 1st place in the most watched national films. Leonel Vieira has been working for more than a decade with important producers in Brazil and Spain. In 2013 he was co-producer of “RED BRAZIL”, a major historical production filmed in English (with a budget of €10M). A co-production between France, Brazil, Portugal and Canada. In 2010, he directed and produced with Spain the miniseries “CONEXÃO” (2x90’), about drug trafficking in Galicia, which was nominated for the FIPA D’OR in Biarritz (2010). In 2015, he performed the biggest production service in Portugal for a Hollywood production of that time. Directed by Terry Jorge and produced by Survival Pictures, “THE PROMISE”, with Oscar Isaac and Christian Bale, had a team of 500 technicians and almost 40 trucks of equipment.

Volf Entertainment recently premiered “THE CRIME OF FATHER AMARO” (6x45’), a period series for the public channel RTP (Portugal) also directed by Leonel Vieira, which won Best TV Series and Best TV Pilot at the Buenos Aires International Film Festival - Web Series (2023). It also premiered the thriller “THE LAST ANIMAL”, directed by Leonel Vieira in Rio de Janeiro, which was nominated as Best Foreign Film at the Gramado Film Festival (Brazil, 2022) an Best Film at the Los Angeles Brazilian Film Festival (USA, 2023).

In a favela in Rio, Didi - a recent accounting graduate - wants to live a peaceful and honest life - contrary to his brother Calango's life of crime. At a samba school rehearsal, Didi encounters an English friend - Alex - who is now in Rio as CEO of a brokerage firm. In this unexpected encounter, Alex offers him a job. Unaware of the illegal world of money laundering that Alex is involved in, working for his father-in-law Frank Martinez, Didi eagerly accepts the job offer.

Paulinha, a sexy transgender woman, dreams of being featured in the Rio carnival parade and having a musical career in the Brazilian funk scene. She is the illegitimate daughter of Casemiro Alves (Ciro), a Portuguese emigrant who runs the “Animal Game” (“Jogo do Bicho”), an illegal gambling scheme that is very popular in Brazil. Ciro is also the owner of a samba school and a powerful boss of “Rio’s mafia”. Alex meets Paulinha and they start a forbidden relationship. Didi and Alex begin to work for Ciro, the "bicheiro", laundering the millions from the “Animal Game".

In a favela, the drug trafficking leader Calango is losing money with his drug business. Sergeant Magalhães, a corrupt cop and Ciro's right-hand man, deliberately delays a supply of weapons that Calango desperately needs to protect his territory from an imminent police invasion. Ciro and the local politicians promise to hand over the "mouth" of Calango's favela to the faction. However, there is one small problem: Didi is Calango's brother. And here begins a web of intrigue and complications.

As we follow Didi's journey and transformation, we travel into the sordid world of drug trafficking and corruption of Rio, a magical and mysterious city where dreams vanish and crime and law have no limits.

The Crime of father amaro

Based on Eça de Queirós' novel of the same name (published in 1875, amidst great controversy and protests from the Catholic Church), "The Crime of Father Amaro" is a series of six 45-minute episodes. The plot is set in Leiria in the late 1860s and follows the story of the forbidden passion between Amaro, a young priest, and Amélia "the most beautiful girl in Leiria". Tense, emotional and anchored in personality conflicts, the series "O Crime do Padre Amaro" takes a critical look at society and the church in Portugal, in 19th century Leiria.

 LEONEL VIEIRA

Leonel Vieira is one of Portugal’s most successful and best known producers and directors. He has directed 3 series and 11 feature films, some of which are in the top 10 of the most watched Portuguese films in history and has the highest box office in Portugal with the comedy “O Pátio das Cantigas”.

As a producer, he developed partnerships with production companies in Brazil, Spain, France and the United States, having produced more than 30 series and feature films, as well as more than 200 commercials for major brands.

Since 1998, he has been in more than 100 international festivals, having received more than 20 awards in film and advertising. In Portugal, as a director, he won several awards at the Clube dos Criativos (Portugal’s most important advertising awards). In 2008, as a director, he was nominated for the LIA Awards (London), with a spot for Vodafone.

Also in 2008, Leonel Vieira was selected as “Producer on the Move” by the Cannes Film Festival. In 2015, he was Portugal’s Arts and Culture Personality of the Year.

His series “Conexão”, an international co-production about drug trafficking in Galicia, was nominated for the FIPA d’OR (Biarritz, 2010) for Best TV Series.

In 2019, Leonel Vieira was a juror at the Shanghai International Film Festival and at the Magnolia TV Awards. In the same year, he was co-producer of the well-known animated series in China, “Panda and the Rooster”.

The promotional film “Monção Deixa Marca”, which he wrote and directed for the Monção Municipality recently won Gold at the Japan World's Tourism Film Festival, Silver at the US International Awards (LA, California) and Best Tourism Film at the CIFFT People's Choice Award.

Currently, he directed the period drama series “THE CRIME OF FATHER AMARO”, which won Best TV Series and Best TV Pilot at the Buenos Aires International Film Festival - Web Series (2023). He also premiered his latest feature film “THE LAST ANIMAL”, a drama / thriller set in Rio de Janeiro, which was nominated for Best Foreign Film at the Gramado Film Festival in (2022) and Best Feature Film at the Los Angeles Brazilian Film Festival (2023).
